The Action Comics #252 in context
Why collectors care
The first appearance of Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, cover-dated May 1959, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in the story "The Supergirl from Krypton." It established the Superman family as a franchise rather than a single character.
How to identify it
Action Comics #252, May 1959, 10 cents. This is Kara Zor-El's debut; earlier "Super-Girl" appearances in the Superman titles are different characters and do not carry the same value.
Common mistakes
Confusing this with Superman #123 (1957), which features a temporary, unrelated "Super-Girl" wished into existence. The Kara Zor-El first appearance is Action Comics #252.
Grade considerations
A late-1950s book with limited high-grade survival. Cover gloss, spine ticks, and page tanning limit most copies; certified high grades are genuinely rare.
