The Captain America Comics #1 in context
Why collectors care
Captain America Comics #1 (1941) is the first appearance of Captain America, a Golden Age landmark famous for its cover of Cap punching Hitler, published before the United States entered the war. It is one of the most valuable Golden Age keys.
How to identify it
A genuine 1941 Timely first printing, not the many reprints or replica editions. Only graded copies with airtight provenance transact at the top of the market.
Common mistakes
Reprints and replicas are routinely confused with the original. Restoration is nearly universal on surviving copies and must be disclosed.
Grade considerations
Very few high-grade copies survive, so census position, restoration, and provenance define value far more than the grade number alone.
