The Fantastic Four #48 in context
Why collectors care
Fantastic Four #48 (1966) is the first appearance of the Silver Surfer and Galactus, the opening chapter of the legendary Galactus Trilogy and one of the most important Silver Age Marvel keys.
How to identify it
A 1966 first printing at 12 cents, not the facsimile. Note that the Surfer and Galactus appear partway through, which is why the book is labeled part one of three.
Common mistakes
The facsimile is conflated with the original. Restoration and married covers appear on high-grade copies.
Grade considerations
High-grade white-page copies are scarce and carry steep premiums. Spine stress is the usual grade-limiter.
