The Marvel Spotlight #2 in context
Why collectors care
The first appearance of Werewolf by Night, Jack Russell, cover-dated February 1972, one of the first horror characters Marvel published after the Comics Code relaxed its monster restrictions, and the start of the company's 1970s horror wave.
How to identify it
Marvel Spotlight #2, February 1972. Marvel Spotlight was a try-out title, so confirm the issue number: #5 in the same series is the first Ghost Rider, also in this catalog.
Common mistakes
Confusing Marvel Spotlight #2 (Werewolf by Night) with Marvel Spotlight #5 (Ghost Rider). Both are keys from the same try-out title.
Grade considerations
An early-70s book with a dark cover that shows spine ticks and corner wear. High-grade copies with white pages carry the premium.
