The Special Marvel Edition #15 in context

Why collectors care

The first appearance of Shang-Chi, cover-dated December 1973, created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin during the kung-fu boom. The character headlined Master of Kung Fu and later anchored a Marvel film.

How to identify it

Special Marvel Edition #15, December 1973. The series was retitled Master of Kung Fu with issue #17, so Shang-Chi's debut is under the earlier and less obvious name.

Common mistakes

Searching only for "Master of Kung Fu" and missing the debut entirely. The first appearance is in Special Marvel Edition, a title most collectors do not associate with the character.

Grade considerations

An early-70s book from a low-profile title that was not widely saved. Spine stress and tanning dominate; high grade is scarce.
