Why collectors care

X-Force #1 (1991) is a defining early-1990s speculator-boom key, a Rob Liefeld launch with one of the largest print runs of the era. It is best known for its polybagged trading-card gimmick.

How to identify it

The first printing was polybagged with one of five bonus trading cards (Cable, Deadpool, Sunspot and Gideon, Shatterstar, or the X-Force team). Sealed copies with the Deadpool card are the most sought; an unbagged newsstand version also exists.

Common mistakes

Because the run was enormous, only sealed high-grade copies (ideally CGC 9.8 with the bag and a specific card) carry a real premium. Opened or low-grade copies are common and inexpensive.

Grade considerations

Value concentrates in sealed, high-grade, card-noted copies. For raw copies, the huge print run means grade and the sealed polybag are what matter.
