The Avengers #57 in context
Why collectors care
The first appearance of the Vision, the synthezoid created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. The character became one of the most enduring Avengers, and the John Buscema cover is among the most recognizable of the late Silver Age.
How to identify it
Avengers #57, cover-dated October 1968 but published in August 1968 -- both dates appear in listings and reference works, and they refer to the same single book. There is no separate August issue.
Common mistakes
Treating the August publication date and the October cover date as two different printings. Also do not confuse this Vision with the Golden Age Timely character of the same name.
Grade considerations
Late-60s Marvel with a dark, high-contrast cover that shows spine and edge wear plainly. Centering and cover gloss are the usual limiters at the top of the grade scale.
