How to identify it

Avengers #8, September 1964, by Lee and Kirby. The precise claim matters: the same character first appeared as Rama-Tut in Fantastic Four #19 (October 1963) and was reinvented as Kang here. So this is the first appearance AS KANG, not the character's first appearance.

Common mistakes

Both Fantastic Four #19 and Avengers #8 are marketed as "1st Kang." They are different books and different claims — FF #19 is the character's debut under a different identity, Avengers #8 is the Kang identity. Know which you are buying.

Grade considerations

A mid-60s Avengers issue with typical spine stress and cover-gloss limits. High-grade copies are scarce and carry a strong premium given the character's profile.
