The Green Lantern #1 in context
Why collectors care
The first issue of Hal Jordan's own Green Lantern series, cover-dated July-August 1960, following his Showcase try-out. It launched a title that ran for decades and established the Green Lantern Corps mythology.
How to identify it
Green Lantern #1 (volume 2), 1960. This is NOT Hal Jordan's first appearance — that is Showcase #22 (1959), also in this catalog. It is the first solo series.
Common mistakes
Paying first-appearance money for a first-series book, and confusing this with the Golden Age Green Lantern #1 (1941), a different character and a different comic entirely.
Grade considerations
An early-60s DC book with a bright cover prone to spine color-break. High-grade copies are scarce.
