The Tales to Astonish #35 in context
Why collectors care
The first appearance of Ant-Man in costume, cover-dated September 1962. Hank Pym had appeared eight issues earlier as an ordinary scientist; this is where he becomes a superhero, in a thirteen-page three-chapter story, and where the Marvel Ant-Man actually begins.
How to identify it
Tales to Astonish #35, September 1962. The companion book, Tales to Astonish #27 (January 1962), is Pym's first appearance but has no costume — it is also in this catalog.
Common mistakes
The #27 versus #35 split is the central question on this character, and both books are sold as "1st Ant-Man." Decide whether you want the character's debut (#27) or the costumed hero (#35) and confirm which the listing holds.
Grade considerations
An early-60s anthology with limited high-grade survival. Cover gloss and spine ticks are the usual limiters.
