Pokémon 1st Edition Cards

A 1st Edition Pokémon card carries a black "Edition 1" stamp and was printed in smaller quantities than Unlimited, making it the most sought-after WOTC-era printing. The premium over Unlimited is largest on holo rares in high grades, where population scarcity compounds.

The 1st Edition stamp is the single biggest value lever on a WOTC-era card. This hub collects the cataloged 1st Edition cards, explains how to confirm the stamp, and links to the edition-premium comparison so you can see the gap over Unlimited in real sold data.

Pokémon 1st Edition Cards: FAQ

Where is the 1st Edition stamp on a Pokémon card?+

The stamp is a small black "Edition 1" badge printed to the lower-left of the artwork window. On WOTC-era cards it is the definitive marker; if it is absent, the card is Shadowless or Unlimited, not 1st Edition.

Are all 1st Edition cards valuable?+

No. The premium concentrates in holographic rares and key characters. Common and uncommon 1st Edition cards carry a modest premium at best. Grade still matters most: a low-grade 1st Edition can sell for less than a high-grade Unlimited holo.
